A family in Nairobi is rejoicing extra after their pair of twins scored the same marks in the just-released 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam results.
Bett Lindsey Kiprotich and her fraternal twin Bett Lee Kiprotich both scored 414 marks just 14 points away from the top pupil Magata Bruce Makenzi of Gilgil Hills Academy.

The twins, who schooled at Mountain View School in Nairobi, together with their parents were surprised but overjoyed by the results.

Bett Lindsey says even though they were both in the same school and class, they had never tied in any exam so this was quite a surprise.

"I used to be on top of him in class," she says. "When these results came, I was actually in shock, we have never even tied in class but I am happy by the results."

Lindsey says the only subject they used to tie was mathematics and this was evident even in the KCPE results where they both scored 85.

"Sometimes, he would get 380 and I would get a 410, first time it is happening," she said. "We would only tie in Math where we would both get 100 or 95%."

In the national exam, the two scored straight As in all subjects but only tied in Math where they got 85.

Bett Lee scored as follows; English 89A, Kiswahili 85A, Mathematics 85A, Science 75A and Social Studies and Religious Studies 80A for a total of 414 marks.

Bett Lindsey scored as follows; English 86A, Kiswahili 82A, Mathematics 85A, Science 76A, Social Studies and Religious Studies 85A for a total of 414 marks.

According to their father Charles Kipkirui Bett, he is over the moon with the children's success saying he was surprised by the results.

"We did not see it coming," he says adding that he will honour the promises he had made to the twins should they pass the exam.

Lindsey says she wants to go to The Kenya High School while her brother, who is in Kericho undergoing initiation wants to go to Mang'u High School.
